BEAR RIVER HIGH – By Cari Doutre - April 20, 2021
What do you do when a world-wide pandemic cancels your high school’s junior prom? You make it up your senior year instead!
And that’s exactly what seniors (and a few juniors and sophomores) at Bear River High School did on Saturday, April 17, 2021 – a makeup prom for missing out on their Junior Prom in 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down schools, sports and dances.
With just over a month left of their senior year in high school, Bear River High’s graduating class of 2021 were lucky enough to have a promenade for this year’s Senior Ball – something usually held only for Junior Prom. But this year the school made an exception.
While there was no royalty announced, students didn’t mind as they enjoyed all the traditional fun of a prom including a song just for Senior Ball 2021. Peter Nielsen and Kenya Tomlinson sang "At Last I See the Light" from the Disney movie Tangled wrapping up promenade before students headed out to take pictures, have dinner and attend the dance.
Senior Ball was held at the Copper Nickel Events Center in Ogden. Hundreds of students wishing to Senior Ball were required to be tested two days prior to the event for the COVID-19 virus in accordance with current guidelines.
