BEAR RIVER HIGH - By Cari Doutre, Headliner Publisher, December 22, 2022
Competition season is in full swing for Bear River High's drill team and it's already showing to be a success. With two competitions already in the books, the team has been capturing the audience's attention, and the judges, with their Marvel themed show routine.
Choreographed by Ellie Rose from Manti, the performance features 30 dancers total from Bear River High's combined Spirit Squad as well as a few superheroes in the mix. With 10 Iron Men, 10 Captain Americas, 9 Thors and one Hulk, it's a fan favorite all around.
"It is such a fun routine and crowd pleaser," said coach Nicky Richards.
In the world of competitive high school drill, Bear River High has three main competition routines when they compete; military, dance and show routine. Drill team athletes, cheer athletes and dance company members at the school can try out for these routines. This year Bear River has 23 drill team members and 12 crossover athletes (cheer and/or dance company team members).
This year's dance routine has 24 dancers in it and is also choreographed by Rose.
"She choreographed our award-winning dance routine last year, so we had to have her back again this year," Richards said.
The Bears' military routine has 30 dancers total and is choreographed by Davis High School drill team coaches Kira Mor and Alisha Peters.
