After taking a couple of weeks off from competition on the golf course, the Bear River High School girls’ golf team is ready to continue the 2021 season.

Starting with a pre-season match against Roy High School at Eagle Lakes Golf Course on March 15, the Lady Bears finished third overall as a team. Senior Morgan Rose tied for second place with Angelie Delgado – both shooting a 43. Trinity Pugsley and Alivia Goring each shot a 49 that day.

Next up the Bears traveled to St. George March 18-20, for pre-season play against all Region 11 teams.

Ridgeline High School finished first overall (175) followed by Green Canyon High School (178) and the Bears in third place (184). Mountain Crest High School (193), Sky View High School (196) and Logan High School (219) rounded out the three-day tournament in team scores.

“It gave them a good chance to play some great courses and we had great weather,” said Jim Thomas, head coach of the Bear River High girls’ golf team.

A quick turnaround, and back to freezing temperatures in Tremonton, the Lady Bears hosted their home tournament at Sky Way Golf Course on March 22, for the first official Region 11 tournament of the season.

“I was really proud of our team. They went out and played their best and endured the elements. We are just a really young and don't have many players with tournament experience. But our senior Morgan Rose placed in the top 10 individually taking 7th place, and we had some good showings from a couple of our freshman girls. We also have two more seniors, Kelby Jensen and Lexie Bingham, but I've been pleasantly surprised by some of our young players. We ended up taking 5th and just hope to continue working hard and keep getting better,” Thomas added.

Next up for the Bear River High girls’ golf team is a trip to Logan Golf and Country Club on Monday, April 12 with tee-time set for 2 p.m. The Lady Bears will then travel to Logan River Golf Course on Thursday, April 15.
