Following a two-game winning streak, the Bear River High girls' basketball team started region play with a home loss to the Sky View High Bobcats on January 13. The Lady Bears led after the first quarter, 12-11, and took that same one-point lead into halftime as they led the Bobcats, 22-21. The third quarter was a rough one for the Bears as they struggled and only scored 6 points while Sky View pulled away scoring 21 in the quarter.

Bear River again outscored the Sky View in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the difficult third quarter as the Bears lost 57-48. Senior Gracie Riley filled the stat sheet scoring 23 points to go along with 12 rebounds 3 assists and a steal.

The Bears then hosted Ridgeline High on January 18, where Riley continued her dominance on the basketball court scoring 16 points for the Lady Bears during Wednesday night's home game against Ridgeline. Jenna LaCroix, also a senior at Bear River, put 8 up on the scoreboard but the Riverhawks were too much for the Bears to handle as they fell to the highly competitive Ridgeline team, 69-41.

Following up their loss to Ridgeline, the Lady Bears took a road trip to Hyrum to visit the Mustangs from Mountain Crest High on Friday, January 20. Going up against a team more evenly matched to Bear River, the Mustangs were up 26-24 going into halftime and from there the game remained too close to call.

Down 41-38, for Bear River, a fourth quarter comeback was attempted but the Lady Bears fell short falling to Mountain Crest, 52-51. Once again Riley and LaCroix led the team offensively. Riley put up 16 points on the scoreboard and LaCroix had 13 points of her own.

Up next for the Bear River High girls' basketball team is a trip to Logan High on January 25, for more Region 11 play. On January 27, the Lady Bears will host Green Canyon High starting at 7 p.m.
