BEAR RIVER HIGH – By Cari Doutre – May 2, 2021
There’s less than two weeks left for the 2021 season for the Bear River High School girls’ golf team as they head into the Region 11 championship tournament on Monday, May 3, 2021 at The Barn Golf Club in Pleasant Grove.
The top eight Bear River players (of the season) will be competing in the region championship tournament – which includes three freshmen.
Wrapping up the past two weeks of competition, the Lady Bears traveled to Logan River Golf Course on April 29, 2021 for their last Region 11 tournament of the season before the championship tournament.
Bear River High senior Morgan Rose shot a 104 for Bear River with senior Kelby Jensen close behind with a 106. Freshman Trinity Pugsley shot a 108 and senior Lexie Bingham shot a 107 for the top four. As a team the Bears finished fifth overall at that tournament.

Earlier in the week on April 26, the Lady Bears traveled to Birch Creek Golf Course in Smithfield where Jensen and Bingham golfed personal bests - both with a 102. Rose shot a 106 and freshman Angie Delgado shot a 110.
“Although we are very young, we have continued to improve each week,” said Jim Thomas, Bear River High School’s head girls’ golf coach.
“Morgan Rose is still ranked in the top 10 in region for the year and we’ve had several players post their lowest scores these past couple of weeks,” Thomas added.
The 2021 4A state championship tournament will be held May 12-13, at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville.
“I’m super proud of our girls for just hanging in there. They never give up or get discouraged and that is the key to this game. I’m very excited to see how well they do at region and state. It should be a couple of fun weeks to finish out our season,” Thomas said.
