Is this the year that the Bear River High School softball team clinches their 10th state softball title?

It’s very possible.

As the Lady Bears head into the 4A state softball tournament this week, Saturday could be the day that 10th state softball title is in their hands. But before Bear River gets there they have four days of competition in the 2021 4A State Softball tournament starting May 19, in Spanish Fork.

Bear River is scheduled to take on Uintah High School Wednesday starting at 12 p.m.

Starting off the 4A state softball playoffs last week, the Lady Bears hosted Hurricane High School in the second round in a best out of three-game series on May 14-15, at Bear River High.

The Tigers faced hefty competition from the Bears, the state’s number two seed in RPI rankings, last Friday as they lost 12-0 after five innings.

The Lady Bears put on a hitting display for the Tigers with 14 hits and doubles from Haylee Farnsworth, Olivia Taylor, McCall Maxfield, Carlee Miller and Kate Dahle. Dahle went 2-for-2 with an RBI at the plate while junior Kynlei Nelson, the Bears’ lead-off hitter, went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Farnsworth went 2-for-2 and senior Oaklie Maxfield went 2-for-3.

Dahle earned the win on the mound for the Bears striking out nine and giving up two hits.

Then it was time to give the Tigers a quick break before returning to the field Saturday morning in Garland.

This time it was junior Jordyn Warren on the mound for the Bears. Warren pitched five innings striking out five and giving up just one hit before sophomore Baylee Sorensen came in for the last inning. Sorensen struck out three of the six batters she faced in the top of the sixth inning.

McCall Maxfield continued her dominance at the plate for the Lady Bears going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple. Taylor went 2-for-4 with a double.

Bear River finished off Hurricane High’s 2021 softball season with a 10-0 win over the Tigers.
