BEAR RIVER HIGH - By Cari Doutre, Headliner Publisher, April 18, 2023

A delay to the start of the Region 11 season due to weather set the Bear River High girls' golf team behind a couple of weeks, along with the rest of the schools in their region, but it did mean two rare back-to-back home tournaments for the Lady Bears.

On April 11, Bear River hosted the first region tournament of the season where they came in third place overall as a team with sophomore Tylee Bennett leading the way. Bennett took 3rd place individually shooting a 91 at Skyway Golf Course in Tremonton, the Bears' home course.

Junior Jessa Theurer finished in 10th place with a 98 followed by Abby Nessen in 12th place shooting a 100 and sophomore Rubee Ramsdell with a 105 rounding out the top four for the Bears.

Ridgeline High led the tournament with an overall team score of 370 for 1st place followed by Green Canyon High in 2nd place with 380 points and Bear River finishing the top three with 394 points.

Less than a week later the Bears hosted a rare back-to-back home tournament (each school hosts one tournament per year) because of course conditions at Birch Creek Golf Course and with home course advantage at her side, Bennett climbed to the top of the leaderboard finishing in first place individually shooting an 85.

Nessen, Theurer and Ramsdell finished in the top four once again for Bear River shooting a 102, 105 and 110 respectively. The Bears dropped a spot in overall team results finishing in 4th place with a score of 402.

This year's team is comprised of just a handful of upperclassmen including seniors, Maci Roberts and Lainee Norman along with juniors Jessa Theurer, Abbi Nessen, Addy Doutre, Sheridan Strong and Madi Johnson. Sophomores who have seen varsity time on the course so far this year include Tylee Bennett, Rubee Ramsdell, Destiny Thompson and Madison Littlefield.

Up next for the Bear River High girls' golf team is a trip to Logan River Golf Course in Cache Valley on Thursday, April 20, (weather and course conditions permitting).
